“What I Told the Republican Party When They Called for Donations”
Ring, ring, ring.
Elizabeth: Hello?
Republican fundraiser: This is Sarah from the Ohio Republican Party. How are you ma’am?
Eliz.: Fine.
Repub.: This won’t take long at all. We know you’ve been a supporter in the past, and we have many key races coming up and…
Eliz.: Ma’am, let me just cut this short and explain something to you. Until the Republican Party begins to endorse candidates that are pro-family, pro-life, who are for limited government and true to the Republican platform, we are not going to continue to give money to your candidates or the GOP.
Repub.: Well, this is not the first time I’ve heard this. But we have a lot of phone-calling to do so we can stop the liberal agenda…
Eliz.: Look, the Republican Party gave us John McCain, who’s a liberal. And you want us to keep sending you money to fight the liberal agenda? We conservatives have put Republicans in office every year. We put in the blood, sweat, tears, and money for the Republican Party and our candidates, and then the Republican Party throws us under the bus by endorsing liberal candidates! Republican candidates try to say one thing to us while they are campaigning but when they get in office, they compromise and don’t stand for the Republican platform. They don’t stand against abortion, against the gay agenda, and they don’t push for limited government.
Repub.: Well, I was disappointed about that too, but that was the national Republican Party. But here in Ohio…
Eliz.: Well, let me tell you about the Ohio Republican Party. My husband ran for state representative two years ago with a strong conservative, pro-family, pro-life, limited government campaign, and the Ohio Republican Party spend tens of thousands of dollars in the primary to help his opponent , who was wishy washy on the issues at best. His opponent said he would not take a position on the pro-life issue unless forced to do so – and this is who the so-called pro-life Ohio Republican Party spent their money on to fight my husband? The Ohio Republican Party was afraid that my husband wouldn’t be a “Yes man” and that he would put his conservative principles above partisan loyalty.
Repub.: So there’s no way I can convince you to renew your membership?
Eliz.: It’s time for conservatives to draw a line in the sand and punish the Republican compromisers. It’s time for us to make the Republicans lose some elections until they learn their lesson and return to their platform and their grassroots. Until they do this, we are done with giving you money. You have got to prove yourself to us.
Repub.: Thank you. Good bye.
Eliz.: Have a great day!
