God Answers Prayer and Demotes an Evil Pro-Abortion Governor

In February, a conservative political group besought the Lord in prayer, and encouraged others to pray that the Lord would foil the efforts of a state Governor who was pushing for a state law that would declare abortion to be a "fundamental right" for women.   This dangerous state law had the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade, but not in the manner that conservatives envisioned.  This Governor's legislation could have the potential to force states to pay for abortions. 

According to Randy Thomasson, president of the Campaign for Children and Families, this Governor "has tried to license homosexual marriages... [and] harassed pro-life crisis pregnancy centers."  This Governor "has embraced anti-family planning public policies since day one."  In 2002, this Governor tried to shut down all Crisis Pregnancy Centers in his state by charging them with practicing medicine without a license.

The Family Research Council described this Governor as "long-time abortion advocate who rose to power with support from NARAL and Planned Parenthood."   On February 28, the FRC made this Governor one of its "prayer team targets."

FRC's public request for prayer reads: "May God intervene to stop Governor Spitzer from succeeding in this evil ambition to make abortion a ‘fundamental right' in New York!  May pro-life New Yorkers somehow prevail, even as they did when he pursued Crisis Pregnancy Centers in 2002! May New Yorkers arise and stir their neighbors to understand the consequences of pursuing this course, and may this bill be defeated!"

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer's career came to a screeching halt with his humiliating resignation less than two weeks later, and with the demolishing of his political ambitions also comes the defeat of this bill to kill children at taxpayer expense. 

Let this well-publicized answer to prayer set an example for all of us that God still hears the prayers of His people.  Public wickedness can be halted through the obedience of God's children to call upon His name. 

Paul said, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth."  (I Timothy 2:1-4)

Let us pray for our leaders that ALL men may lead a quiet and peaceable life - that would include the preborn.  Let us pray for our leaders that they will do justice and that ALL under their jurisdiction may be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth - that would include innocent children being butchered in the womb.  Let believers take a moment to celebrate a God who answers prayer and loves the preborn children He has made in His image.  Let us join the lead of FRC to bring the plans of the baby-butchers to a halt through persistent, believing prayer.
